Ridge Augmentation

Ridge augmentation is a common procedure performed at The Urban Dentist to restore the natural contour of gums following tooth extraction. After tooth removal, jawbone deterioration and recession are common, leading to a reduction in socket height and width. This often results in an indentation in the gums or jawbone. However, severe bone deterioration may hinder implant placement.

The procedure involves two types of Ridge Augmentation: Soft Tissue and Hard Tissue. Soft tissue grafts enhance aesthetics and cleanliness, usually using tissue from the palate or substitutes. Conversely, hard tissue grafts aim to reconstruct bone contouring before implant placement, utilizing bone grafts from other mouth areas or cadaver bone. Both procedures involve numbing the area, making incisions, graft insertion, and securing with stitches or titanium screws. Healing time varies but generally lasts up to 6 months, depending on the patient’s condition and the size of the repaired area.
